Award Winning Chefs Compete For Battle Of Eden Title

The competitors, each from a different hotel in the collection, are coming to Mallory Court in Leamington Spa on October 4 to fight for the annual Battle of Eden title.

Under the direction of Eden’s Food and Beverage Director, multi-award-winning Michelin chef Simon Haigh, the chefs will take guests on a seven-course culinary adventure, hoping to win over their hearts, stomachs and ultimately votes.

Simon, who is also Head Chef at Mallory Court Hotel, will introduce and explain each course without revealing its creator. At the end of the evening, guests will vote for their favourite, the scores will be totalled and the Battle of Eden winner will be announced.

Simon says: “Our chefs entered a blind ballot to decide which course they would be preparing and will spend about a month working on their dishes, all of which are being created specially for this event.

“Food is at the heart of the Eden Hotel Collection and we are always looking at exciting new combinations and innovative techniques.

“We firmly believe in seasonality and provenance, with all our chefs using the finest ingredients sourced from their well-stocked kitchen gardens, orchards and bee hives as well as local suppliers.

“The Battle of Eden brings together a group of highly-talented chefs, who will be cooking their hearts out to provide guests with arguably the most memorable fine dining experience of their lives. It’s going to be a great event.”

This is the third annual Battle of Eden. The event was launched in 2011 when Mallory Court Hotel clinched the title with a vanilla panna cotta, compressed apple, spiced brambles, ver jus sorbet and apple blossom. Chef John Footman will be hoping to reclaim the title for Mallory Court this year after the hotel lost out to Brockencote Hall Hotel, near Kidderminster, in 2012.

Tickets for the black-tie Battle of Eden event cost £125 per person, which includes a Champagne and canapé reception and a seven-course taster menu with wines. To book a place call Mallory Court Hotel on 01926 330214.
